Hello World

Blog. What an odd word. And what an odd thing to undertake. Why should anyone care about my musings about life? Well, maybe someone should care. My husband better read it and tell me it's hilarious. And poignant. And which part is which. Also, I think I should be able to expect that my mother would read it. But once she reads the first entry, she has fulfilled her duty and then she goes back into the pool of everyone else that needs to find it interesting enough to read again.

Everyone says, You really should blog. If you're a writer, you need a blog. So, here I am. Doing what I'm told.

So, what to blog about...pen, paper, hand, desk, computer, coffee...FEMINISM. Obviously. We have a winner. Do I have anything to say on the topic?

Let me answer that with a story.

Yes.

That's the whole story.

No. This is the embarrassingly true tale. My father-in-law bought us a book as a gift called Free Money "They" Don't Want You to Know About. I could, and perhaps will, write a whole blog about that book and why one would want to gift it to us. That will be the blog that "They" don't want me to write about. I'm going out on a limb here, but I don't think "They" read my blog. Yet. But they SHOULD. Cause it's awesome. Anyway, it was a well-intentioned gift and so we got this book and it has a chapter about grants. After reading the chapter, I decided that I could write a film about the women's suffrage movement. Surely this was worthy and ripe for grant money.

The only trouble was...what was the name of that woman I was thinking of? You know, the head of the movement. Hello wikipedia. Looks like I was thinking of Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Or was it Susan B. Anthony? Hey, the silver dollar chick. She loved that nickname.

And then it hit me. I know nothing about the women's suffrage movement. At all. Public schools, ladies and gentlemen. So, I took ten minutes (at work, of course) to read up on it. Women...as smart as boys...couldn't go to boys' schools...something about the abolitionist movement...something about the temperance movement...a bunch of speeches...right to vote. Good. I'm caught up.

Guess what? Just as I suspected. I'm a feminist. And a malist. Or would it be masculist? Whatever. As long as we're all equal.

And I am a fan of grant money. Free Grant Money, even if "They" aren't a fan of me knowing about it. SO, in the pursuit of said money while telling a worthy historical story (don't judge me), I am now planting the seed of a project in my mind that may or may not lead to grant-worthiness. Just letting you know. I've got plans.

That's what I do.
